Syndicat des Salariés des Services d'Alarmes (CSD) [Section ADT]

SDSDSD History

The story begins in March 1978 in Montreal, Quebec.

ADT employees formed a union in March 1978. The original union was the: IBEW Local 568 in Ottawa, Ontario, and in 1982 ADT employees formed their own local.

In March 1982, IBEW Local 1604 was founded! Its purpose was to represent the employees, who had become their members, against their employers ADT. The goal was to have better working conditions for them and their families, while respecting the company and the customers.

The new local did not have it easy. In 1982 and 1984 there were two strikes, however the members stood by their causes, with both strikes ending with both parties’ content.

At the beginning the union was for alarm operators, data agents, storekeepers, dispatchers, security guards, and service and installation employees. But over the years, Local 1604 has come to represent workers in new occupations such as technical support staff.

In 2012, ADT begins big changes, and the company then splits creating two separate companies.

In January 2015, ADT completes its big changes with the final split of the company in two and jointly merges with Protectron.

In March 2015, Mr. MacAskill and Mr. Girard create the Alarm System Workers Union [S.D.S.D.S.D.] with about 100 members who affiliate with the CSD.

In 2016, the union represents 250 members who are alarm operators, data agents, storekeepers, dispatchers, and service and installation technicians, but also loyalty, retention and customer service agents.

And we’re just getting started in the field of alarms and communications in Montreal!
